I recently read Lisey’s Story by Stephen King, although I wasn’t sure whether I would enjoy what amounts to a romance from the master of horror. I needn’t have worried. Of the couple in the story one half – a writer (aren’t they always?) called Scott Landon – is already dead when the book begins and appears to have left a series of clues behind to help his widow survive an attack from someone interested in the work he left behind.
Going deep into Lisey’s memories, we relive her roller coaster of a life with Scott while she tries to decipher his messages and save both herself and her sister from the attacker. Best of all, no-one turned into a monster in the end (if you’ve read enough Stephen King books, you’ll know what I mean…)
