I was due to be writing a new book connected to a popular computer game in January 2013 – but the project has just fallen through, leaving me with a lot of free time School workshopson my hands.  So, I’m emailing out to offer schools in the north west of England an author visit for half-price.  I usually charge £380 plus travel expenses for three, one hour sessions plus a book signing.  In January only, you can get the same for just £190 plus £10 travel costs – £200 all in!

Here are the sessions on offer…

Idea Busters (one hour, up to 40 pupils, suitable for years 3,4,5,6,7,8)
Writing a story is brilliant fun – if you can come up with an interesting idea to begin with!  In Idea Busters, I show your pupils three fast and fun ways to brainstorm ideas so exciting they’ll fight to put pen to paper!
This workshop is fast, fun and furious – and you won’t believe the range of ideas your pupils come away with.  Your pupils will require sheets of paper and pens or pencils.

Character Crazy (one hour, up to 40 pupils, suitable for years 3,4,5,6,7,8)
A story is nothing without compelling, three-dimensional characters – but they can be difficult to create.  In Character Crazy, I teach your pupils two tried and tested techniques for coming up with a cast for their stories.
You may be surprised to find that your pupils like their new characters so much that they invent new stories just to write about them!  Everyone will need paper and a pen.

Giant Crabs Ate My Brain! (one hour, any number of pupils – really!, suitable for years 3,4,5,6,7,8)
Have you ever wondered why a seemingly normal person would want to write about vampires, werewolves and things that go bump in the night?  Well, in this session I tell all – and much, much more besides.
It all started on a Welsh camping trip that saw me destroy most of my family’s belongings (no, really!), and continued through episodes of kidnapping, lemonade bottle hurling and punching my baby brother in the face on Christmas morning.
Giant Crabs Ate My Brain! is an anarchic author talk in which I reveal a lot of secrets, invite pupils up to explore where stories come from, and answer as many questions as your school can throw at me.
Lots of laughter and guaranteed to cause queues in your library for my books!

I can run three one-hour sessions, in any combination of the above.  Want three Idea Busters?  No problem.  Two Character Crazy and one Giant Crabs…?  It’s up to you.

If you’d like to book a date, or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact me at events@tommydonbavand.com  I look forward to hearing from you.
