Thanks to everyone at Carr Head Primary School for a very warm welcome yesterday – almost three years to the day after my previous visit!  I had a great time working with years 3 and 4 on their creative writing skills, followed by a fun interactive talk with the whole of Key Stage 2 on how I became a writer, and injured most of my family along the way!

Carr Head Primary School

My favourite moment of the day was when explaining how to dig deeper in your imagination for story ideas with year 3…

Me: What can you tell me about houses?

Pupil1: They have windows.

Pupil 2: People live in them.

Pupil 3: You can burn them to the ground!

Me: …

Here’s what the head teacher had to say about the day:

“Tommy’s energy and enthusiasm are engaging and infectious – even the most reluctant writers are inspired to put pencil to paper.  Any child’s suggestion for a story (no matter how off-the-wall) is accepted and skilfully woven into the narrative during Tommy’s fast-paced workshops.  A visit from Tommy is a great pick-me-up for a gloomy January.”
Donna Scully, head teacher, Carr Head Primary School

What a great start to my author events in 2013!
